Professor Tong, a clinical professor and Chairman of Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, as well as the Director of the Institute of Human Communicative Research at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), is specialized in the fields of otology, neurotology and skull base surgery. Recently he is pioneering in development of advanced endoscopic ear surgery techniques. Paralleled with that, his interest has extended to the broader field of medicine – epidemiology and public Health especially in elderly health. Having led the clinical research team, he has numerous successful grants and over 200 peer-reviewed publications, which has resulted in a national and international reputation of his Department in the field of general otology, cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation and nasopharyngeal cancer research. Development of technical innovations for minimally invasive surgery in otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery has also been his recent interest. Professor Tong has also visited regional centres regularly in the past 25 years to share his clinical and surgical experience in hearing implants. He has organized a number of international conferences and co-founded the World Chinese Academy of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, which is responsible for inter- and intra- disciplinary academic communications, that runs biennial meeting in different cities in greater China. Apart from teaching, research and clinical work, Professor Tong advocates community service to educate the public on health issues related to ear, nose and throat. As Founder and Chairman of a non-profit organization, Hear Talk Foundation, he enlists voluntary service from the professionals offering service to the underprivileged. The Foundation operates regular charitable missions to mainland China to provide free medical and surgical treatment to the poor. He has established an organization, Asia Pacific Otorhinolaryngologic Surgical Training Group, to train otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgeons in Asia-Pacific region. He is also leading the Department in swallowing research pioneering in the development of new and diagnostic therapeutic tools. In 2017, he co-chaired the organized the World Congress in Rhinology with IRS and ISIAN in Hong Kong.
Dr. Chang is the chief of the otology and neurotology division in the department with special interest in hearing degeneration, auditory implantation, vestibular diseases, tinnitus, transcanal endoscopic ear surgery and skull base surgery. She pioneered endoscopic ear surgery in Hong Kong since 2016 and performed the first transcanal skull base surgery in the same year. She performed most of the auditory implants and is the leader of many of the otology research in her centre. She is currently the assistant director of Institute of Human Communicative Research, trainer of The Hong Kong college of Otorhinolaryngology, Neurosurgery, the Asia Pacific Otorhinolaryngologic Surgical Training Group (APOST) and the World Skull base group. She is a member of the international working group on Endoscopic ear surgery (IWGEES), secretary of the Pan-Asia Working Group on Endoscopic Ear surgery (PAWGEES). She has collaborations with John Hopkin’s Centre for research related to elderly hearing loss and dementia. She is the chief author of the Total Endoscopic Ear Surgery Dissection Manual published by the CUHK with a total of more than 30 publications including international journals, peers reviewed abstracts and book chapters.
Dr Didier Portmann is a well-known ENT specialist in Bordeaux. Dr Didier Portmann is very professional and competent. Dr Cai is Deputy Chief Physician of the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China. He is also a master’s supervisor at Central South University with special interest in hereditary hearing loss, cholesteatoma, malignancies of temporal bone, endoscopic ear surgery and skull base surgery. He served as a visiting scholar at the Miami University Miller School of Medicine for 1 year. He is currently Deputy Head of Physicians in Audiology Group, Otolaryngology Branch, Hunan Medical Association.
He pioneered in introducing endoscopic surgery for lateral skull base diseases since 2017 and performed the first exclusive endoscopic transcanal transpromontorial surgery for internal auditory canal vestibular schwannoma in Hunan Province. He have hosted one project funded by the Natural Science Foundation of Hunan Province, and one project funded by the Changsha Municipal Natural Science Foundation. In recent years, He has published more than 40 articles, of which more than 20 have been included in SCI.
Dr Yang is Chief Physician, Director of Department of Otolaryngology of Huazhong Science and Technology University Union Shenzhen Hospital. She is also a Master Student Tutor of Shenzhen University.
Dr Yang is a visiting scholar at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pennsylvania. She is a member of the International Working Group Endoscopic Ear Surgery. She is also Director of Asia Pacific Association of Endoscopic Ear Surgery, National Vice Chairman of China integrated traditional Chinese and Western Medicine Ear Endoscopy Branch,
Vice Chairman of Guangdong Province Clinical Medical Association Ear Endoscopy Branch and Deputy Chairman of China Doctor Association Shenzhen Otolaryngology Branch.
Dr Yang is good at ear microsurgery and ear endoscopic surgery, ear endoscopic surgery and tinnitus and deafness diagnosis and treatment. She has published several SCI papers on international and domestic nuclear journals, and chaired 3 projects of Shenzhen Municipal Health and Family Planning Commission and Nanshan District Science and Technology Bureau.
Dr John Chan is the Consultant of the
Department of ENT at Queen Elizabeth Hospital of Hong Kong. He has special
interest in facial plastic surgery, especially the septorhinoplasty and
otoplasty, to improve the form and function of his patients.
Dr Horace Cheng graduated from the medical
faculty of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2011. He then completed the
fellowship training in Otorhinolaryngology in 2019.
He is now currently working
as a Resident Specialist in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and
Neck Surgery at Prince of Wales Hospital and Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole
Hospital. He has special interest in otology and neurotology, including
cochlear implantation, endoscopic ear surgeries and lateral skull base
surgeries. He is also passionate in teaching of medical students and surgical
trainees in otorhinolaryngology.
Dr Kary Lui was graduated from The Chinese
University of Hong Kong and has completed her specialist training in
otorhinolaryngologist. She is currently a resident specialist in the United
Christian Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor (honorary) in Department
of Otorhinolaryngology, head and neck surgery, The Chinese University of Hong
Kong. She is sub-specialised in otology with close collaboration with the
otology and neurotology team in the Prince of Wales Hospital.
Dr John Sung is an ENT Specialist in
private practice in Hong Kong. He graduated at The Chinese University of Hong
Kong and completed his specialist training at The Prince of Wales Hospital in
2004. He continued to develop in otology and he was the Implant Surgeon of the
Cochlear Implant Team of PWH from 2005 to 2018. His research interests include
all modalities of surgical rehabilitation of hearing - cochlear implant (CI),
auditory brainstem implant (ABI), totally-implantable hearing aid (TIHA),
middle ear implant and Bone-anchored hearing aid (BAHA); tinnitus
rehabilitation and sound therapy and mobile phone application development for
personalised amplification and enhancement of hearing.
Dr Willis Tsang graduated from The Chinese
University of Hong Kong in 1995. He became a Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of
Medicine and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Otorhinolaryngology
in 2002.
Dr Tsang is an ENT specialist in private
practice. He subspecialized in otology, neurotology, BAHA surgery, implantable
hearing aids and cochlear implantation.
Internationally, he is a Board Member of
the East Asia Symposium on Otology (EASO) and is a member of the International
Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery (IWGEES).
Dr. Tsang is the director and
honorary Treasurer of the Hear Talk Foundation. Hear Talk Foundation is a
registered charitable organization in Hong Kong committed to serving the
underprivileged communities with hearing impairment and speech disorders both
in Hong Kong and China.
Dr Cynthia Wai graduated from the
University of Hong Kong and obtained her fellowship in Otorhinolaryngology in
2016. She is currently a Consultant in the Department of Ear Nose and Throat,
Head and Neck Surgery in Kowloon West Cluster, with a particular interest in
Otology. Her passion was further enriched with her post-fellowship oversea
attachment with Prof Thomas Linder at Luzerner Kantonsspital and Dr Daniel Lee
at Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary. She pioneered endoscopic ear surgery
in her Cluster and she is one of the chief Otology trainer in her Cluster. She
has also been actively teaching in various local temporal bone courses in the
past few years.
Dr Wong, a graduate of The University of
Hong Kong's Medical Faculty, is an ENT specialist and former member of Queen
Mary Hospital's Otology team. He specializes in endoscopic middle ear surgeries
and cochlear implant. Dr Wong now practices privately, offering personalized
care and utilizing his expertise to provide effective treatments for ear, nose,
and throat conditions.
Dr Yu obtained her M.B.B.S. degree from The
University of Hong Kong and graduated with honours and five distinctions in the
final summative examination in 2009. After internship, she joined the
Department of Ear, Nose and Throat of Queen Mary Hospital where she underwent
her basic and higher surgical training. She received the Hong Kong College of
Otorhinolaryngologists Distinguished Candidate Award in 2016. She attended
overseas training in Otology and Neurotology at Stanford Hospital, CA, USA;
Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, Toronto, Canada and House Clinic, CA, USA in
2017.
She has special interest in otology and neurotology. This includes care of
adult and children with disorders of ear canal, middle ear, inner ear, facial
nerve and lateral skull base.
