Dr. Gordon Soo was born in Brunei Darussalam, a small oil-rich sultanate on the island of Borneo. He read medicine at the University College & Middlesex School of Medicine, The University of London. After concluding his higher specialist training in Otorhinolaryngology in the United Kingdom, he flew east and home. On the way, he stopped by and joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong as an Honorary Visiting Lecturer for a year.
The dynamism, academic opportunities and challenges and the renown "can-do" spirit of the Hong Kong community urged him to continue to pursue his specialty development and service with the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong and to serve the local community. At the same time, his affiliated appointment with the Division of Otorhinolaryngology, The Chinese University of Hong Kong as Clinical Associate Professor (honorary), further stimulated Dr. Soo to develop and challenge his ideas within the field.
Dr. Soo has over thirty scientific publications in local and peer reviewed publications and has lectured on his speciality subjects to lay and peer audiences and medical students. He also helps write and edit for the Hong Kong College of Otorhinolaryngologists magazine, SENSES. Dr. Soo has also organised large conferences eg The 10th ASEAN ORL Congress, Brunei in 2003 and our Inaugural 2006 CUHK ENT Conference.
His area of interests include bone anchored solutions and facial plastic surgery. Dr. Soo has successfully organised Baha courses and directs the CUHK-NTEC Baha and Osseointegration Programme. He has been an invited faculty to regional countries like India and Korea to demonstrate this technology. Dr. Soo was the concept director of the 3D graphic animated Baha surgery which is solely licensed to The Chinese University for educational instruction.
Dr. Soo is also the Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery for the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. His focussed expertise is ear reconstruction and septorhinoplasty but he has a clear direction and passion to continue to help further develop this area for the local and Asian community.
