Professor Michael C.F. TONG, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is specialized in the fields of otology, neurotology and skull base surgery. Paralleled with that, his interest has extended to the broader field of medicine – epidemiology and public health especially in elderly health. Having led the clinical research team, he has numerous successful grants and over 300 publications, which has resulted in a national and international reputation of his Department in the field of general otology, cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation and nasopharyngeal cancer research. With reference to this workshop, he is also leading a research team of clinicians and speech pathologists/ therapists in the study of pathophysiology and treatment of patients with swallowing difficulties. Development of new techniques of minimally invasive surgery in ORLHNS has also been his recent interest. Professor TONG is also regularly visiting regional centres in the past fifteen years to share his clinical and surgical experience in hearing implants. He has organized a number of international conferences and co-founded the Chinese Academy of ORLHNS that runs biannual meeting in different cities in greater China. Apart from teaching, research and clinical work, Professor TONG advocates community service to educate the public on health issues related to ear, nose and throat. As Founder and Chairman of a non-profit organization, the Hear Talk Foundation, he enlists voluntary service from the professionals offering service to the underprivileged. The Foundation operates regular charitable missions to mainland China to provide free medical and surgical treatment to the poor.

Dr Li graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong and completed fellowship training in Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery. He is currently a clinical assistant professor (honorary) in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital. He underwent overseas training in Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Toronto General Hospital, Mount Sinai Hospital, and Endoscopic / Robotic Head & Neck Thyroid Surgery training in Yonsei University Severance Hospital and Police General Hospital. Dr Li has special interest in head and neck and thyroid surgery, especially in endoscopic / robotic thyroid surgery.

Dr CHAN graduated from Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine in London, followed by specialist training in Otolaryngology, Head and Neck surgery at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions with advanced training in Head and Neck surgery, microvascular reconstruction and robotics. He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong with research interests include HPV associated oropharyngeal carcinoma and the application of robotics in Head and Neck Surgery.

Dr Catherine Chan Po Ling obtained her MB.ChB in The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2015 and awarded a distinction in MRes Medical Robotics and Image Guided Intervention in Imperial College London. Aspirated to become an engineer-clinician, her research interest lies in materializing intra-operative augmented reality imaging processing to assist minimally invasive surgery. She is currently a resident trainee in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery in Prince of Wales Hospital.

Dr SK Ng received his basic medical training from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). After his graduation from medical school, he pursued his specialist training at the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH).

Dr. Ng is in private practice and a clinical associate professor (honorary) of CUHK.

His main clinical interests include transoral laser surgery for pharyngolaryngeal diseases, thyroid surgery and salivary gland surgery.

Dr Shirley Liu is an Associate Consultant of the Prince of Wales Hospital and a Clinical Assistant Professor (honorary) at the Department of Surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Shirley graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003 with Distinction in Surgery and obtained fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2010. Currently, she subspecializes in endocrine surgery. Apart from clinical work, she is also an active researcher and has published over 45 original articles in peer-reviewed journals. Her academic contributions have been recognized by over 20 international awards, including the Fujimoto Prize (First Prize) from the Asian Association of Endocrine Surgeons in 2014, the International Association of Endocrine Surgeons (IAES) Best Clinical Paper Prize in 2015, the IAES “Dr John Farndon Award” in 2017, and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh China Medal in 2017.

With strong commitment in the development of endocrine surgery, she works as council members of the International Society of Oncoplastic Endocrine Surgeons and the Thyroid Disease Committee of the Chinese Thyroid Association Research Hospital Group.

After graduating from medical school of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Xina pursued a surgical career and obtained her fellowships in 2012. She joined the endocrine surgery team in North District Hospital since.

Dr. Lo completed subspecialty training in endocrine surgery under the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2016 and holds special interest in diagnostic imaging and treatment of thyroid cancers.

She is also an honorary clinical teaching staff for the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Dr Eddy WONG graduated at the medical faculty of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). After graduation from the medical school, he pursued his ENT specialist training in the United Christian Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH). After that, he developed an interest in head & neck surgery. He underwent further subspecialty training both locally and overseas including the attachment to Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Taiwan.

He is currently the head and neck surgeon in PWH and honorary clinical assistant professor of CUHK. Aside from head and neck oncology surgery, he is actively involved in the voice rehabilitation surgery for post laryngectomy patients.
