Angkoon Anuwong, a police major, is a graduate of Chiang Mai University in Thailand. He obtained his surgical training and completed fellowships in minimally invasive surgery at Rajavithi Hospital in Bangkok, Thailand, robotic and laparoscopic colorectal surgery at Korea University Anam Hospital, Republic of Korea, and bariatric - metabolic & minimally invasive surgery at University of Minnesota, USA and endoscopic thyroidectomy at The First Affiliated Hospital of Jinan University, China.

Dr. Anuwong’s clinical research focuses on minimally invasive surgery especially NOTES, thyroid & parathyroid surgery. He is one of the pioneer in transoral thyroid & parathyroid surgery. He has the world's largest series of transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy.

He is an honor consultant and Asian continental chairman of the High Tech Surgery Association International Executive Committee and founding member of the Transoral Thyroidectomy Association (TOTA). Now he serves as laparoscopic surgeon and program director of the Minimally Invasive Surgery Division at the Department of Surgery in Police General Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand.

Dr. Hoon-Yub Kim is an endocrine surgeon who now serves as professor of surgery in Korea University, Seoul, Republic of Korea. He graduated from Seoul National University Medical College where he earned his M.D. and later Ph.D. and was trained in Seoul National University Hospital as intern and surgical resident.

Dr. Kim’s major research interests are thyroid cancer and related surgery. His research mainly focuses on the preservation of function of the laryngeal nerves with intraoperative neuromonitoring (IONM) during thyroid surgery, and development of robotic transoral thyroid surgery that might be referred as the NOTES (Natural Orifice Transluminal Endoscopic Surgery) for thyroid gland, which, in turn, enabled him to perform the successful robotic transoral thyroidectomy in the real living patient primarily in the world. He has authored more than 60 articles on this topic published in peer-reviewed journals to date.

He is also secretary general of Asia-Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery, director of Hanyang University Hospital Cancer Centre and the past president of the Korean Society of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery.

Professor Tae received his MD and Ph.D. from the Hanyang University in 1985 and 1995 respectively. He has published more than 200 articles.

Dr Cho is a graduate of Korea University and did his internship at Ansan Hospital, residentship at the Department of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery before moving to Hwacheon Public Hospital as a public health doctor and then Dain ENT Hospital as chief of the Department of Thyroid, Head and Neck Surgery. In 2013, he started his private practice at Withsim Clinic.

As an innovator, Dr Grogan is one of only 10 surgeons in the United States who can perform transoral scarless endocrine surgery. He is actively studying the connection between microbiome and thyroid cancer and have developed an assay to diagnose thyroid cancer in thyroid nodules that is now undergoing confirmatory testing.

He also serves as the general secretary of the International Guild of Robotic & Endoscopic Head and Neck Surgery and Director of Research Committee, Korean Thyroid Association.

A pioneer in robotic retro auricular neck dissection for thyroid and head and neck cancer, Dr. Koh has written over 100 original articles and book chapters regarding endoscopic and robotic thyroid and head and neck surgery.

Dr. Ralph Tufano is the Director of the Division of Head and Neck Endocrine Surgery and conducts thyroid and parathyroid surgery with a focus on optimizing outcomes. He is a recognized world authority on the management of thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, benign thyroid diseases and parathyroid disease. He has expertise in the management of thyroid cancer nodal metastases, advanced and invasive thyroid cancers as well as recurrent thyroid cancers. His work in molecular markers, improving surgical outcomes, nerve monitoring and exploring novel treatment techniques for thyroid and parathyroid diseases has helped the medical field tailor and personalize treatment for patients with these conditions.

He is currently a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the Chinese University of Hong Kong with research interests include HPV associated oropharyngeal carcinoma and the application of robotics in Head and Neck Surgery.

Shirley graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2003 with a Distinction in Surgery and obtained fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2010. She subspecializes in endocrine surgery and is an active researcher, publishing over 45 original articles in peer-reviewed journals.

After graduating from medical school of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Xina pursued a surgical career and obtained her fellowships in 2012. She joined the endocrine surgery team in North District Hospital since.

Dr. Lo completed subspecialty training in endocrine surgery under the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong in 2016 and holds special interest in diagnostic imaging and treatment of thyroid cancers.

She is currently member of the Hong Kong Thyroid Society, Asia Pacific Society of Thyroid Surgery, International Society of Oncoplastic Endocrine Surgery, the Endocrine Society, Society of Endocrinology, European Society of Endocrinology and American Thyroid Association, as well as corresponding member of the British Association of Endocrine and Thyroid Surgery. She is also an honorary clinical teaching staff for the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Outside the development of her surgical career, she has a master’s degree in sports medicine and enjoys being a team physician at field side for sporting events and supporting the swimming team of her alma mater. She is also honorary secretary to the Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Alumni Association and serves on the editorial board for the alumni newsletter of the Faculty of Medicine, Chinese University of Hong Kong. She enjoys swimming, travelling and photography.

Dr SK Ng received his basic medical training from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). After his graduation from medical school, he pursued his specialist training at the Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital and the Prince of Wales Hospital (PWH).

Dr. Ng is in private practice and a clinical associate professor (honorary) of CUHK.

His main clinical interests include transoral laser surgery for pharyngolaryngeal diseases, thyroid surgery and salivary gland surgery.

Professor Michael C.F. TONG, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is specialized in the fields of otology, neurotology and skull base surgery. Paralleled with that, his interest has extended to the broader field of medicine – epidemiology and public health especially in elderly health. Having led the clinical research team, he has numerous successful grants and over 300 publications, which has resulted in a national and international reputation of his Department in the field of general otology, cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation and nasopharyngeal cancer research. With reference to this workshop, he is also leading a research team of clinicians and speech pathologists/ therapists in the study of pathophysiology and treatment of patients with swallowing difficulties. Development of new techniques of minimally invasive surgery in ORLHNS has also been his recent interest. Professor TONG is also regularly visiting regional centres in the past fifteen years to share his clinical and surgical experience in hearing implants. He has organized a number of international conferences and co-founded the Chinese Academy of ORLHNS that runs biannual meeting in different cities in greater China. Apart from teaching, research and clinical work, Professor TONG advocates community service to educate the public on health issues related to ear, nose and throat. As Founder and Chairman of a non-profit organization, the Hear Talk Foundation, he enlists voluntary service from the professionals offering service to the underprivileged. The Foundation operates regular charitable missions to mainland China to provide free medical and surgical treatment to the poor.

Dr Vlantis is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, which he joined in 2000. He is a senior member of the head and neck surgical oncology team at the Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong, the field of his main clinical and research interest. He is also responsible for undergraduate teaching of medical students, the training of registrars / clinical assistants in otorhinolaryngology, and for postgraduate subspecialist training in head and neck surgery. He did his undergraduate and postgraduate training in South Africa and a fellowship in head and neck surgery in The Netherlands.

Dr. Alvin Wan, MBChB (CUHK), FRCR, FHKCR, FHKAM (Radiology), obtained his medical degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and completed his specialist radiology training at Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital; with subspecialty interest in Head and Neck Radiology, Interventional Radiology and Breast Radiology.

He further undertook post-fellowship overseas training at Stanford University in USA, Asan Medical Center in the Republic of Korea and University Hospital Aachen in Germany.

He is currently working as Consultant Radiologist in St. Paul’s Hospital, providing diagnostic and interventional radiology services.
