WHY CUHK?

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery is under the Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, an international reputed institution with over 13,000 postgraduate students. It is based at the Prince of Wales Hospital, a 1,300 bed major teaching hospital. We provide comprehensive postgraduate research supervision to students in the areas of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, Speech Therapy, Audiology or related Sciences.

The teaching team has academic interests and expertise in genetic research, clinical research and biomedical engineering. We train and equip postgraduate students with in-depth knowledge and advanced research skills, aim to advance research in surgical sciences, speech therapy and audiology.

The programme is research oriented and offers comprehensive training and supervision to students who aim to be a researcher in the discipline. Students will be equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to complete their research and thesis in one of the fields of specialization in ENT, Speech Therapy, Audiology or related sciences.

The Professional Diploma Programme in Communication Disorders and Sciences features an interdisciplinary approach to Speech and Language Pathology. It introduces students to foundation knowledge and theories in linguistics, speech-language pathology, hearing sciences and anatomy and physiology, as well as providing students with an appreciation of the multidisciplinary team and clinical approaches in managing various groups with communication disorders such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech Sound Disorder (SSD), Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), Craniofacial Disorder, Hearing Impairment, Motor Speech Disorder (MSD) and Fluency Disorder. The programme also aims to provide students with exposure to real clinical contexts and an appreciation of integrating theory to clinical practice.

The Professional Diploma Programme in Hearing Science and Rehabilitation addresses the local urgent needs of trained practitioners to provide hearing rehabilitation services in the local primary healthcare settings. It introduces students to an organized systematic training in Hearing Sciences, Hearing Rehabilitation, and Communication Sciences to cater for the need for the Chinese population with hearing disorders.
