Professor Francis Marchal is a world acclaimed ENT expert in the diagnosis and treatment of salivary gland diseases. He is the developer of an original technique named Sialendoscopy and has created the “European Sialendoscopy Training Centre” in 2001 which has trained more than one thousand physician from all over the world.
Francis is Professor of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. Besides his passion in sialendoscopy, Professor Marchal is interested in head and neck surgery, salivary gland surgery and facial plastic surgery.
Professor Marchal has more than 100 publications, chapters of books and in 2015 published a book entitled “Sialendoscopy: the hands-on book.”

Daniele MARCHIONI

Prof. Marchioni graduated and specialized in Otolaryngology at the University of Modena (Italy)
12 years he is dealing with microscopic and exclusive endoscopic surgery in the districts of the skull base and ear; It is also responsible for more cancer surgery of the head and neck.
He has performed more than 6,000 surgical operations, in particular the case of high complexity procedures performed in multiequipe for the treatment of skull base pathology, middle ear endoscopic surgery and neuromas dell’acustico, endoscopic treatments for diseases of the anterior skull base with extra and intracranial extension, and complex surgical treatments for cancer of the head of districts and neck cancers.
He is a founding member of ‘IWGEES (International Working Group for Endoscopic Surgery Ear) and collaborates with leading international hospital and university structures.
He has performed its training and surgical activity at the complex structure ospedialiero-University of Modena, where he developed the surgical anatomy and physiology concepts underpinning existing approaches transcanalar exclusive middle and inner ear endoscopic, Anatomical-physiological These concepts have been published on most important and prestigious journal of otology and thanks to these studies have been initiated numerous practical courses for the teaching of endoscopic technique in the world at the most prestigious international universities.
He has performed as a team with Professor Presutti the first transcanalar endoscopic approaches ear average in Italy for the treatment of cholesteatoma.
Thanks to several years of study and numerous anatomical and dissectors studies performed at numerous foreign universities prestigious Professor Marchioni with Professor Presutti encoding transpromontoriale minimally invasive approach for the treatment of acoustic neuromas localized at the level of the internal auditory canal and the endoscopic transcanalar approach to lateral eskull base.
He codified the first totally endoscopic approaches for the treatment of acoustic neuromas and for tumors of the facial nerve.
He performed the first cochlear implants for the treatment of endoscopic assisted profound hearing loss in middle ear malformation syndromes, codifying the way assisted endoscopic suprameatale.
He published the first international book on the endoscopic treatment of ear disease and acoustic neuromas and lateral skull base.
He is teacher and faculty at several international centers and holds workshops in many countries (USA, Brazil, Japan, Glasgow, Singapore, India, UAE, Australia, Turkey and many others) to spread the endoscopic technique in ear surgery and the lateral skull base.

Chin-Kuo CHEN

Chin-Kuo CHEN, MD, PhD is the head of the otologic department, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taoyuan, Taiwan. Currently, he is also the executive director, International College of Surgeons, Taiwan section and director of communication enhancement center, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan. Dr. CHEN received his medical degree from the Chung Shan Medical University and PhD from Taipei Medical University. He completed otolaryngology residency, chief residency at Taipei Municipal Ho-Ping Hospital and fellowship at Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Taiwan.
Dr. CHEN continued to make contributions to the scientific community. His primary field of study is otology and his research is focused on ear surgery and hearing loss. Dr. CHEN is famous at his experience on endoscopic ear surgery (EES). He has been a member of IWGEES and invited as a speaker at many major otologic conferences, such as world congress of EES, world congress of cholesteatoma, AAO, APSCI, world congress of ENT Endoscopy, Asia-Oceania ORL-HNS congress, and so on. He has devoted his attention to EES and shared experience these years.

Tengku Mohamed Izam TENGKU KAMALDEN

Currently Dr. Tengku Mohamed Izam TENGKU KAMALDEN is the head department and senior consultant ENT surgeon since 2004 for his hospital. His ENT training started in 1994 in National University of Malaysia. He pursued his postgraduate training in North Riding Infirmary, Middlesbrough, UK from 1995 till completion of his FRCS in Edinburgh in 1997. He was designated as specialist registra in hospital kuala lumpur before continuing as consultant in present hospital. His interest in Otology started in 2005 and had his training with Prof Jens Thomsen in Gentofte hospital Copenhagen for a year.
Dr TENGKU KAMALDEN also had the opportunity to have fellowships attachment with Dr Mario Sanna in Picenza Italy as well as in Causse Ear Clinic Bezier France with Dr Robert Vincent. His endoscopic ear surgery started in Sydney 2014 with Dr Joao Flavio Noguiera and Dr Nirmal Patel and has been enrolled as member of international workgroups of EES. He has conducted his own three major international course on temporal bone and endoscopic ear surgery since then. He is holding the post of chairman of Malaysia Cochlear Implant program since 2015. He is also the board of examiners for master in surgery (ORL).

Arunachalam P. IYER

He was trained in the Newcastle rotation and did Otology/Neurotology fellowship at Auckland City Hospital and Starship Children's Hospital, New Zealand. His special interests are endoscopic ear surgery, chronic otitis media especially mastoid cavity obliteration and management of dizziness. He is a member of the international working group in endoscopic ear surgery (IWGEES). Euan MURUGASU

Dr Euan MURUGASU completed his medical training under the President’s Scholarship and graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1986. After completion of his National Service in HQ Medical Services, Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), he entered the post-graduate training programme in ENT surgery at the National University Hospital (NUH). Dr MURUGASU was then posted overseas to the United Kingdom, where he obtained both ENT Surgical Fellowships, from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1992. Under the Lee Kuan Yew Scholarship, he then completed his Doctoral thesis and was awarded a PhD in Auditory Physiology and Molecular Biology at the University of Sussex, UK in 1997, winning several prestigious awards including the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM) IONOS Registrars medal, and the Gold Medal at the 9th British Academic Conference in Otolaryngology (BACO) in Manchester, UK. His inner ear research work was also nominated for the Politzer Prize in Zurich, Switzerland in 1999.
Upon his return to Singapore, he was appointed as a Senior Lecturer at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and became a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine, Singapore in 1999, being duly entered into the Academy’s Roll of Specialists and awarded Certificates of Specialist Registration in Otolaryngology (ENT) by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Medical Council (SMC). Dr MURUGASU was then sent by the Ministry of Health (MOH) for his sub-specialty training in Otology and Neuro-otology on a MOH HMDP Scholarship to train under Professor Richard Ramsden at the University of Manchester, UK, followed by clinical attachments at the House Ear Clinic, Los Angeles, USA, the University College of San Franscisco, USA, and the California Ear Institute, Stanford University, USA.
Dr MURUGASU’s sub-specialty interest is in Otology and Neuro-otology including implantable hearing aids eg the Vibrant Soundbridge, bone-anchored hearing aids (BAHAs) and cochlear implants (CIs), as well as specialized surgery for balance disorders and tumour sugery eg Acoustic Neuromas. Under Professor Ramsden, he was also trained in the area of Auditory Brainstem Implants (ABI) where the electrodes stimulate the cochlear nucleus directly. For the past 2 years, he has embarked on Endoscopic Ear Surgery and is a member of the IWGEES.
Dr Euan MURUGASU is currently the Director of Otology Services for Jurong Health, and is concurrently a Senior Clinical Lecturer with the National University of Singapore (NUS) Medical Faculty and a Clinical Examiner with the MOH ENT Specialist Accreditation Board. He is actively involved in the under-graduate and post-graduate medical education program at the NUHS campus. Dr MURUGASU is also a Faculty Course Instructor for the ENT Instructional Course Week and the Otology-Neuro-otology / Temporal Bone dissection courses conducted annually at the SGH and TTSH campus.

Nirmal PATEL

Nirmal is a founding member of the Sydney Endoscopic Ear Surgery Research Group. The group has a Fellowship program in EES based at Nirmal's Kolling Deafness Research Lab. He is the International Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery Board member for Australia and New Zealand and has been actively performing and teaching EES for 5 years. Nirmal has performed over 700 Endoscopic Ear Surgery cases.

Qiong YANG

Dr Qiong YANG is the Vice-Chief of the Otolaryngology Department in Shenzhen Sixth Hospital. Her work focus largely on otomicrosurgery. She had completed more than 1,000 middle ear surgeries since 2009 and implemented over 400 cases of endoscopic ear surgeries since 2015. She attended the 1st World Congress on EES (Endoscopic Ear Surgery) as the only Chinese surgeon in 2015 and gave a slide and video presentation in 2nd World Congress on EES. She have held 8 term national continuing education training programs on temporal dissection training and endoscopic ear surgery dissection course in December 2016. She published an endoscopic cadaveric dissection video on “Ventilation and Physiology of Middle Ear” in April 2017. Currently, Dr YANG is co-translating Professor Daniele Marchioni’s book “Endoscopic Ear Surgery Principles, Indications, and Techniques” with other six surgeons in China. She was also the keynote speaker on EES in many meetings.

Alexander SAXBY

Dr. SAXBY is a consultant surgeon at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney where he works as an otologist and neurotologist. His main areas of interest include the development of endoscopic ear surgery, hearing implants and indigenous ear health.
He graduated from Cambridge University Medical School and later moved to Australia in 2002. After gaining his FRACS in 2011, he has gained further experience from time spent at the Fisch Microsurgery Institute in Luzern, Switzerland, Causse Clinic in Beziers, France, BC Children’s and St Paul’s Hospitals in Vancouver, Canada and Ospedale Borgo Trento, Verona, Italy.
He is an active member of the International Working Group on Endoscopic Ear Surgery (IWGEES) promoting discussion and research into the use of endoscopes in ear surgery. He is part of the Sydney Endoscopic Ear Surgery Research Group and one of the directors of the Sydney Endoscopic Ear Surgery cadaveric training courses.
He is actively involved with education of ENT trainees and medical students through his involvement with the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and the University of Sydney. He is a father of three and lives in Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Dr Victor ABDULLAH BSc (Hons), MBBS (London), FRCS (England), FRCS (Edinburgh), FCSHK, FHKCORL, FHKAM (Otol) graduated from the former Charing Cross & Westminster Hospital, now Imperial College (London) in 1985. During his medical school days, he took an intercalated year to further his research experience at Middlesex Hospital of the University of London. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree with Honors in1982. He developed an interest in ENT, Head and Neck Surgery during his clinical years and confirmed his interest when he undertook an Elective attachment as a student at the Royal National Throat, Nose and Ear Hospital, London in 1984. During his internship, he spent three months of his Surgical Training in Ear Nose and Throat Surgery which took his interest in the subject further. After spending four years of training in ENT at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, London, 1988-1992 during which he completed his registrar training and obtained his FRCS (England), he returned to Hong Kong to further his advanced training under Professor Charles Andrew van Hasselt at The Chinese University of Hong Kong and has served the Hospital Authority of Hong Kong since then.
Dr ABDULLAH's interests are in Paediatric Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery and Surgery for Sleep Apnoea. He remains committed to Public Service and takes a strong interest in teaching and training.
He is presently the Consultant and Cluster Chief of Service, Department of Ear Nose and Throat, United Christian Hospital, an affiliated unit of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, serving a population of one million in Kwun Tong and Tsuen Kwan O, Kowloon East Cluster. Dr Alice KY Siu MBChB (CUHK) FRCSEd(ORL) FHKCORL, FHKAM(Otol), MMed(Paed) graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in year 2005. After she attained her fellowship in 2013, Dr Siu sub-specialises in paediatric otorhinolaryngology. She is a local expert in paediatric airway diseases, voice disorders and rare congenital conditions. Dr Siu is active in introducing new and minimal invasive technologies into the paediatric group, such as in TEES and balloon dilatation of the sinus and the airway, as she believes in the preservation of growth potentials in children. Dr Siu teaches in three universities and is a regular tutor of the Institute of Advanced Nursing Studies. Dr Siu reads about nutritional science and paediatric educational psychology at her pastime.

John SUNG

Professor Michael C.F. TONG, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is specialized in the fields of otology, neurotology and skull base surgery. Paralleled with that, his interest has extended to the broader field of medicine – epidemiology and public health especially in elderly health. Having led the clinical research team, he has numerous successful grants and over 300 publications, which has resulted in a national and international reputation of his Department in the field of general otology, cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation and nasopharyngeal cancer research. With reference to this workshop, he is also leading a research team of clinicians and speech pathologists/ therapists in the study of pathophysiology and treatment of patients with swallowing difficulties. Development of new techniques of minimally invasive surgery in ORLHNS has also been his recent interest. Professor TONG is also regularly visiting regional centres in the past fifteen years to share his clinical and surgical experience in hearing implants. He has organized a number of international conferences and co-founded the Chinese Academy of ORLHNS that runs biannual meeting in different cities in greater China. Apart from teaching, research and clinical work, Professor TONG advocates community service to educate the public on health issues related to ear, nose and throat. As Founder and Chairman of a non-profit organization, the Hear Talk Foundation, he enlists voluntary service from the professionals offering service to the underprivileged. The Foundation operates regular charitable missions to mainland China to provide free medical and surgical treatment to the poor.
