Professor Michael C.F. TONG, Chairman of the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, is specialized in the fields of otology, neurotology and skull base surgery. Paralleled with that, his interest has extended to the broader field of medicine – epidemiology and public health especially in elderly health. Having led the clinical research team, he has numerous successful grants and over 300 publications, which has resulted in a national and international reputation of his Department in the field of general otology, cochlear and auditory brainstem implantation and nasopharyngeal cancer research. With reference to this workshop, he is also leading a research team of clinicians and speech pathologists/ therapists in the study of pathophysiology and treatment of patients with swallowing difficulties. Development of new techniques of minimally invasive surgery in ORLHNS has also been his recent interest. Professor TONG is also regularly visiting regional centres in the past fifteen years to share his clinical and surgical experience in hearing implants. He has organized a number of international conferences and co-founded the Chinese Academy of ORLHNS that runs biannual meeting in different cities in greater China. Apart from teaching, research and clinical work, Professor TONG advocates community service to educate the public on health issues related to ear, nose and throat. As Founder and Chairman of a non-profit organization, the Hear Talk Foundation, he enlists voluntary service from the professionals offering service to the underprivileged. The Foundation operates regular charitable missions to mainland China to provide free medical and surgical treatment to the poor.

Dr CHANG graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, currently works as resident specialist in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery of NTEC and honorary clinical Assistant Professor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She is a member of the otology team with special interest in transcanal endoscopic ear surgery and skull base surgery. She is also a member of the International working group on endoscopic ear surgery (IWGEES). She is dedicated in medical teaching, research and active participation in international courses and conferences.

Dr. LAI graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2004. He completed his residency training in otorhinolaryngology in Hong Kong. His main interest is facial plastics and head and neck reconstruction. He received subspecialty training from the attachment to Chang Gung Memorial hospital in Taiwan and the Facial nerve center at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston.

Dr. LAI is currently a team member of the facial plastic division of CUHK and is actively participating in facial palsy management and facial reanimation surgery.

Dr LAM graduated from the medical school of The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1993. He has been a Trainer for the Hong Kong College of Otorhinolaryngologists since 2000. His special interests are otology, neurotology and implant surgery. He is a senior surgeon of the CUHK Cochlear Implant Team. He also lectures and demonstrates surgery at local and international conferences and workshops.

Dr Kary LUI graduated from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2014. She started her basic surgical training in General Surgery and Neurosurgery in the Princess Margaret Hospital. She now continues her training in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery; NTEC

Dr SUNG is a graduate of the Medical Faculty of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He is ENT specialist and a member of the Otology team with special interest in auditory rehabilitation and bionic auditory implants.

Dr Willis TSANG is an Associate Consultant of the Prince of Wales Hospital and is a Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has experiences in various fields of Otology. His areas of study are middle ear surgeries and implantation otology surgeries.
