MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN
MESSAGE FROM CHAIRMAN
Since the establishment of the Department of Otorhinolarngology, Head and Neck Surgery in 2007 we have been at the forefront of patient care and innovation and I write this taking on the role as Chairman on the shoulder of giants before me.
CUHK hosts the only academic Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery department in Hong Kong. We partner with the Prince of Wales Hospital, Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethersole Hospital, United Christian Hospital, Tseung Kwan O Hospital and The Chinese University of Hong Kong Medical Centre locally to provide comprehensive care to the local patient population.
In addition to our mandate as clinical physicians, innovation is at the core of our department’s development and mission as we strive to translate cutting edge research into impactful endeavors that will benefit both our local and wider global community of patients. The JC STEM Lab of Personalised Cancer Medicine, one of 5 in CUHK is led by Professor Andreas Moeller from our Department and is set to deliver fruitful outcomes in translational cancer research. Our research into the role of the microbiome in the pathogenesis of head and neck cancers and the development of minimally invasive surgery for head and neck cancers has and continues to benefit patients. Our work on hearing rehabilitations improves human communication, hearing and cognitive decline.
In tandem with the CUHK innovation drive synergizing with the local and wider developments of the Greater Bay Area (GBA) to develop a hub of technological innovation. As we strive to improve, impact and innovate in patient care, we will carry on being creative and forward-thinking. Leveraging our departmental expertise and our partnerships, we will continue to push boundaries, explore new research avenues, and aim for excellence. Our expansion of local academic capabilities will springboard CUHK ENT to expand in the GBA and grow our department, specialty and community.
With much excitement I look forward to us working together, to build our department of tomorrow.
